  • Are you presently experiencing a chronic or acute illness? Have you considered asking the elders to anoint you with oil and pray with you for healing?
  • Do you confess any sin to other believers? Why or why not?
  • How would you describe your prayer life – Inconsistent? Regular? Perfunctory? Only in a crisis?
  • How does the example of Elijah encourage us about the power of prayer?
  • Is there anyone that you know that is wandering from the faith? Will you attempt to bring them back?

1 Timothy 2:1-8

  • Paul encourages prayers of all kinds and that prayer be made for our civic authorities.
  • How often do you complain about civic authorities? How often do you pray for them?
  • Prayer is mentioned in the context of God’s desire to bring people to salvation. How much of your prayer life is devoted to asking God to bring people to Himself?

1 Kings 17:1-17

  • Elijah’s prayer that there would be no rain, which put him in a difficult situation. How often do we not pray because we fear what God may do in response to our prayers?

  • Jesus instructs us how to prayer.
  • How does your prayer life reflect the mode of Jesus’ prayer in this text?

James 1-5
